Oatlands
Oaty & Joey's Play Barn
Oaty & Joeys Playbarn located at Oatlands Village is Guernsey's go to family day out. The playbarn features one of the largest play frames in Britain as well as a variety of other play equipment including trampolines, e-cars, games arcade and even a bowling alley. Despite all this excitement, the star and true wow-factor of the playbarn is Joey, an ex-trislander aircraft from the Aurigny fleet which is now housed inside of the playbarn and spectacularly hung from the ceiling for all visitors to see.

Works to construct this facility commenced in early 2017 with the formation of the building's substructure which CBL designed & detailed in the form of reinforced concrete strip footings, piled foundations with reinforced concrete pile caps and reinforced concrete slab. Superstructure for this building was designed by CBL Consulting for Channel Welders in the form of a steel portal frame that optimises the use of ComFlor decking for the upper deck of the building and both metal & timber cladding for the exterior finishes. CBL Consulting advised and assisted with the hanging of Joey by providing the design and specification for each of the hanging brackets used. Channel Welders fitted these brackets to the steel frame while Borley Brothers Engineering carried out the lifting operation of the aircraft. On top of designing the structural foundations, steel frame and assisting with the hanging of Joey, CBL Consulting undertook and provided complete foul & surface water drainage design & detail.

CBL Consulting are extremely proud to announce that the hanging of Joey at Oatlands was named 'Engineering Project of the Year' at the Guernsey Property and Construction Awards 2018.
