Hospital Modernisation Project - Phase 1

Currently Under Construction
Phase 1 of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital Modernisation Project comprises a single storey Critical Care Unit (CCU) being constructed as extension to the existing Ozanne ward which is also undergoing refurbishment as part of the works. In addition to this, the project also includes a tiered, two storey structure which forms the new Post-Anaesthesia Recovery Unit (PACU) by infilling an existing courtyard.
CBL Consulting were responsible for the detailed design of the steel frame superstructures, reinforced concrete ground beams, bearing pad foundations and reinforced concrete retaining walls. Steel frame ‘slim floor’ construction was used in both instances with deep trough composite decking to limit the structural zone to 300mm and maximise the service void to accommodate the vast quantities of services required in a new hospital. Both the CCU and the PACU include vast areas of roof plant to supply the additional areas. CBL Consulting were also involved in extensive works to enhance the hospital’s infrastructure, providing two reinforced concrete substation and transformer buildings in the south-west of the Hospital site.
Works commenced on site in March 2022.
