We are extremely pleased to see the completion of the new purpose-built Upgrade Fitness Gym in the Rohais ahead of their opening on June 1st. CBL Consulting were appointed to provide the civil and structural engineering for the new gym. Steel portal
frames formed the primary superstructure, with a composite concrete deck mezzanine floor within the gym space and a first-floor studio and office space above changing facilities below, designed in accordance with Sport England guidelines. The structure was formed on a sloping site, comprising ground-bearing floor slabs within the gym space and suspended beam and block flooring in the changing rooms. The foundations were provided by ground-bearing concrete pad foundations to columns and strip footings below sleeper walls. Grouted cavity external retaining walls cut into the site topography to accommodate the building, with foul water and surface water drainage designed to work using the sloping site’s topography. Secondary steel framing was provided to help form the building’s signature yellow stripe on the East elevation.
